Bodyguard AU
Things had changed a lot since he'd gone pro. Basketball players were paid a lot of money and even though they were tough and athletic, their continued physical fitness was considered a financial asset. So the risk that something might happen during his interactions with fans—or, more precisely, other teams' fans—was not one that the owners of his team wanted to take.
He'd only been under this restriction for a couple of days, so it was something he had yet to get used to. He knew it would come with time, especially as the two of them got to know one another. In any case, now that he was dressed it was time to get going. He left the bathroom and went into the main part of his hotel room. Soon enough it would be time to roll.

High School AU
[And as a casual observer, it wasn't really like any other school, except for her. She was hard to miss, really. Vivacious, happy, and with a long shock of bright pink hair. When she'd passed his locker in the hallway, or stood a few people ahead of him in the lunch line, he couldn't help but stare. That was the kind of person he wished he was friends with, but he found himself shy to the prospects of breaking the ice.]
High School AU
So she notices that she's getting watched. She always gets watched. She honestly likes being watched, though hopefully not in an entirely mean way. So one day, she just swings by and leans on the locker next to his.]
You know, you should just say hi.
High School AU
Yeah, I guess I should have. You seemed pretty busy though, didn't want to interrupt. [it was only half the answer, though. He'd been so much more confident at his old school.] But, uh ... well ... Hi?
High School AU
[She grins.]
High School AU
He takes some time arranging the books in his bag and then closes his locker and spins the dial.] I mean, I don't know you, so I guess you could be a jerk? But you seem really nice with your friends, so ... I doubt you're a jerk. I mean, uh. I'm Orion.
High School AU
Everyone's really nice to their friends though, right? So I could secretly be a jerk and now you're talking to me.
Like the constellation? My name Sarah.

20 MERCENARY AU BC CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP
Irritation had given way to anger, though, when it was revealed that the job wasn't for a single operative, but two. That wasn't the way things worked; people hired 'Maine' (there wasn't a day that went by that he didn't regret the moniker, cursed younger him for deciding on it) to act as shock and awe, not to play backup to someone else. Oh there had been fury, bravado and posturing and threats, but that hadn't changed a single thing. If the pay hadn't been so tempting, he would have most certainly walked.
And perhaps it was for the best that he hadn't, because the woman that he was assigned (forced, if he was being honest with himself) to work in tandem with was, at the very least, interesting. Not what he would have expected, though that wasn't saying much because he'd expected so little, but at the very least competent while on the job. He hadn't made a point to get to know her during down times.
Competent enough that eventually he'd found his eyes wandering, even through hails of bullet fire, because there was something almost artistic in the way her sword was nearly an extension of herself. Intriguing, and he'd have to begrudgingly admit that it was impressive. But also who the fuck used swords anymore?
Eventually it settled on frustration, though. Frustration at the fact that yes, she was skilled enough to keep up with him. Frustration that she might have been better than him. And most certainly frustration over the fact that it was far too appealing to watch her wade through any opposition, covered in gore and grinning.
What the fuck.
He'd been surly all day, and the fact that they were now stuck waiting, camped out inside a warehouse that they'd been sent to ultimately burn down, hadn't helped anything. And if he'd been staring at her in the quiet, it was simply because of that fact anyways; boredom, he'd take that lie to his grave.
kekeke
1) Didn't talk much, but fine, she didn't need him to talk much.
2) Competent, which was really the most important thing, since she didn't want to get her ass killed because some random merc couldn't get his shit together. She'd been on enough decent teams to give him a chance as long as he didn't try to knife her for her share of the pay. (It would be dumb for him to try. Other people had tried, and it was worth noting that she was the one still alive and relatively unblemished.)
3) Unfairly hot. Seriously, who the fuck needed that many muscles or that much height? He presented a challenge like a mountain that needed climbing, except for
4) What a taciturn a-hole.
A taciturn a-hole who was currently staring at her. Maybe she'd been wrong about him not being dumb enough to try to knife her for the pay.
While they waited, she'd unsheathed Howl and gotten out her trusty whetstone, oiled it, and gotten to work. She hated having nothing to do with her hands, and drawing was really not an option right now. But the motions were so familiar it still have her nothing but time to think. Think and notice that the taciturn a-hole was still staring at her.
Well, better to be friendly. That had always been her policy. Friendly up until evisceration was necessary. "Do I have something on my face?"
Okay, maybe not that friendly. But she'd been smiling when she said it at least.
there will someday be a universe in which maine isnt a little shit and this is not it
But he'd been caught, apparently, if her questioning had any merit. There was no reason to offer an answer though; he didn't owe any explanations, after all. Instead, there was merely a slight narrowing of his eyes, a flick of his gaze to the weapon, but no other tell that he'd even heard her. No need for idle small talk, it was unnecessary.
Well, she's a bit of a shit too~
She gives him a little smile. "Present company accepted of course. I'm sure you have all the balls in the world. Balls for days."
Okay, she might be... poking at him a little.

But she's competent. And it's driving him to distraction, damnit.
"Fists 're better by that logic." And oh does he know the joys of hand to hand. Nothing quite like feeling the crack of bone under one's knuckles, after all.
